With new heating methods and vast improvements in existing technology, it can be overwhelming to know which kind of boiler is the best and most effective option for your home. Would a combi boiler be best? Should I go gas or oil? What about condensing boilers? Is my existing boiler too old?
One option to consider is choosing an oil fired boiler over a conventional gas setup – but just what advantages do oil boilers have over other methods?
1. Increasing In Heating Efficiency
Figures from the Energy Saving Trust suggest that older generation boilers generally only operate at between 70%-75% efficiency, meaning around a quarter or more of the heat generated by the boiler is wasted.
Modern oil boilers tend to operate far more efficiently, at levels of up to 90%, meaning that as little as 10% of the energy is wasted.
2. Reduction In Running Costs
The increase in efficiency can mean significant savings on your heating and energy bills, with annual savings of anywhere between £100 and £300 possible – though this does of course depend on how efficient your existing boiler is and how much you pay for your energy.
3. New Oil Boilers Much More Efficient Than Older Ones
In the past, little changed about the design and efficiency of boilers – particularly oil fired boilers. In recent years, however, the move towards combi and condensing boilers means that the systems are able to retain much more of the heat compared with the non-condensing older models. So even if you currently have an oil-fired boiler in your home, it may be time to upgrade and improve your home’s heating efficiency.
